1.2  Introductions

 

Formation of Valikamam South Pradeshiya Sabha according to authorities given to the members vide the law of Pradeshiya Sabha section 4 and section 2 – sub –set-(1) gazette notification No- 453/20 dated 12.05.1987 the Valikamam South Pradeshiya Sabha upgraded and functioning from 01.01.1988. Pradeshiya Sabha Upgraded on 01.01.1988 and was functioning under the administration of special commissioner.

Local Government Election took place on 29.01.1998 the administration of the Pradeshiya Sabha took over by the council elected by the people.

 

The location of Valikamam South Pradeshiya Sabha is the road which is joins to the Jaffna town between Kankesandurai road and Palaly road and accross to kaithady manipay road and puthur road which is going through the chunnakam in Jaffna district, Northern Province. Valikamam South Pradeshiya Sabha far from Jaffna is 12 km . The boundaries of Valikamam South Pradeshiya Sabha are Valikamam North Pradeshiya Sabha, Valikamam East  Pradeshiya Sabha,Valikamam Southwest  Pradeshiya Sabha,Valikamam West  Pradeshiya Sabha and Nallur Pradeshiya Sabha.  The extent of Valikamam South Pradeshiya Sabha is 33.26 sqkm. There are 141  small villages  in 30 grama niladari divisions. There are 30 members in council.
